Hailing from Fredericton, NB, Richard is a fourth year mathematics student at the University of New Brunswick who is very excited to help launch the UNB Math Society. Richard has had a passion for math for most of his life, from learning multiplication tables and grinding out Kumon workbooks to competing in math competitions. Over the next few years, he looks to ponder deeper into the field of math education, which he finds interesting. Richard works as a tutor at the Math Learning Center on UNB campus and also teaches a local math enrichment class for kids aged 10-15. Charlotte is a third year Arts and Science student pursuing a double major in Mathematics and French, planning one day to teach high school mathematics. Hailing from Vancouver, BC and having never visited Atlantic Canada, she was recruited to play on the Women's Varsity Soccer team. On top of soccer, she is a Teaching Assistant for the French Department, and also tutors students in high school mathematics, putting into practice her passion for helping others learn, In the future, she hopes to receive a bilingual Bachelor of Education, equipping her to embark on a mission to break the negative stigma surrounding math, particularly the defeatist mindset that exists primarily in females.
Sarah is a third year mathematics major with a minor in business, and plans on studying actuarial science when she finishes her degree. She grew up just outside of Fredericton, in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick. She attended Fredericton High School, the place where her passion for math began. In her spare time, Sarah coaches high school tackle football, and works at Employment and Social Development Canada. She looks forward to becoming more involved in the math community at UNB.
Jaime is a fourth year student finishing her degree in both Mathematics and Biology, growing up in Fredericton her love for math sparked at a young age and when she got into university - the option to continue on it math presented itself and so she decided to keep studying the weird and wonderful discipline. Her goal as part of the Math Society team is to get all areas and faculties on this campus engaged in events and excited about math. We’ve all encountered math at some point in our degrees and most of us will continue to in our daily lives, so let’s love and embrace it! In her free time Jaime loves to travel, play volleyball, listen to music and most importantly spend time with her friends and family.
Originally from Sudan, Karim is currently in his 4th year, studying Chemical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics & Statisitcs at the University of New Brunswick. Growing up in the Fredericton region, Karim’s earliest love for math began in elementary school when he memorized products up to 12x12. High School served as a platform for him to further enrich his math skills as there were several competitions and classes Karim enrolled in to develop his critical thinking. He hopes to continue to foster an environment for students and staff to showcase their love for math and enjoy each others company. He is currently serving as vice president of the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Society and enjoys keeping up with NBA Analytics and playing Settlers of Catan.
Growing up in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Amber has always been a keen, engaged, and enthusiastic student. Amber’s passion for Math sparked in high school because of an influential teacher. It was during her university career that Amber realized that the wanted to pursue the challenging and complex discipline of mathematics. Since declaring her double major in biology and mathematics, Amber has wanted to end the negative stigmas towards math and spread her love of the subject to others. She is eager to bring forth her positive attitude and love for math to the society this year. In her limited spare time, Amber enjoys eating sushi, reading Harry Potter, and spending quality time with family and friends.
